Difference between 8 bit 16 bit and 32 bit micro controller or micro processor


  • 8 bit, 16 bit and 32 bit micro controller or micro processor where the bit means micro controller's size of the data bus (number of bits it can process) and the size of general purpose register.
  • If 8 bit data to be processed in 8bit micro controller then this will take 1 machine cycle. where as 116 bit data will be processed in 2 machine cycle in a 8 bit micro controller.
  • In case of 16 bit micro controller it takes only one machine cycle is enough.
  • This is how the processing speed increases and the processing time gets reduced. when the bit type of the micro controller or processor is increased.
  • Also accumulator width varies with respect to 8 bit, 16 bit and 32 bit micro controller.
